EU AI Act

The European Union agrees on the AI Act — the world's first comprehensive legal framework for regulating artificial intelligence. It bans social scoring, restricts real-time facial recognition, and requires transparency for high-risk AI systems. Critics call it either too aggressive (stifling innovation) or too timid (full of loopholes). But it establishes a precedent: AI is not beyond the reach of democratic governance. Like GDPR before it, the AI Act becomes a global reference point — setting standards that ripple far beyond European borders.
