Terms of Service

What This Project Is
AI 4 Society Observatory is a volunteer-driven, open-source platform that aggregates and classifies publicly available news articles related to AI societal impact. It is a transparency and awareness tool — not a commercial service.
By using this website, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
No Professional Advice
Nothing on this platform constitutes financial, legal, medical, or professional advice. The Observatory visualizes data trends and classifies news articles. It does not make predictions, recommendations, or calls to action.
You should not make decisions based solely on information from this platform. Always consult qualified professionals for advice relevant to your situation.
Accuracy & Limitations
- Signal classification is performed by AI (Gemini) and reviewed by human volunteers. Both can make mistakes.
- Risk scores, severity ratings, and trend assessments are best-effort estimates, not authoritative measurements.
- We source from publicly available articles. We do not verify the accuracy of the original reporting — we classify and surface it.
- The graph taxonomy evolves as new risks and solutions emerge. Historical data may be reclassified.
User Accounts
Signing in with Google creates an account. You agree to:
- Use your real identity (no impersonation)
- Not attempt to access admin features without authorization
- Not scrape, bulk-download, or programmatically extract data beyond reasonable personal use
We reserve the right to deactivate accounts that violate these terms.
Contributor Responsibilities
If you apply and are approved as a contributor (signal reviewer, discovery reviewer, scoring reviewer, editor, or lead), you additionally agree to:
- Review content honestly and in good faith
- Not approve content you know to be false or misleading
- Not use your role to promote personal, commercial, or political agendas
- Accept that all review decisions are logged and auditable
- Step down from your role if you can no longer fulfill it
A lead may revoke contributor access at any time for violations of these responsibilities.
Intellectual Property
Our content: The Observatory's classifications, scores, editorial hooks, and graph structure are original work released under the project's open-source license. You may reference and link to them freely.
Source articles: Signals link to third-party articles. We display titles and AI-generated summaries under fair use for commentary and research purposes. Full article content remains the property of its publishers.
Your contributions: By reviewing content as a contributor, you grant AI 4 Society a perpetual, royalty-free license to use your review decisions and notes within the platform.
Voting
The Observatory allows public voting on signals and nodes. Votes are:
- Limited to one vote per user per item
- Stored privately — only aggregate counts are shown publicly
- Advisory — votes inform but do not override editorial decisions
Automated or coordinated voting intended to manipulate results is prohibited.
Availability
This is a volunteer project. We make no guarantees about uptime, availability, or continuity of service. The platform may be modified, paused, or discontinued at any time.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, AI 4 Society Observatory, its volunteers, and contributors are not liable for any damages arising from your use of this platform. This includes but is not limited to decisions made based on information presented here.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as the project evolves. Changes take effect when posted. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
